I believe the 2006 ToN paper implies that they can transmit immediately
after they get the CTS.  

However, if you really want to confirm, you should look at the S-MAC
implementation on our website.

(And S-MAC has really been superceeded by SCP-MAC, so I'd encourage you
to look at what SCP-MAC does if you want to consider the state-of-the-art.)
