[ns] Link Quality estimation based on retransmission ratio

Hi.

I'm wondering if anyone has experiences concerning using the retransmission ratio as a measure for the link quality?

To be more specific, assume node A has performed (n+r) transmissions to the neighbouring node B within a time window T. Of this (n+r) transmissions, node B received n packets. In other words n is the number of unique packets and r is the number of retransmissions. If we let R = (n+r)/n be the retransmission ratio, i.e. the ratio between the number of transmission and the number of unique packet, this ratio may be a measure of how good the link between A and B is. If the link is good and without collisions, then R=1.0, and if the link encounters many collisions then R>1.

Furthermore if there exists related works concerning this topic please let me know.

Vinh Pham
