[ns] 802.15.4 in adhoc networks

Hi,
I am trying to use 802.15.4 from ns-2.31 to observe the energy consumption
 in an adhoc wireless sensor networks, do I need to use beaconless mode as
it supports peer to peer topology ? How can that be done using this
package ? Can any one tell, please?
