[ns] class Oldsim error

hello;
I installed ns2.31 on ubuntu 8.04.The allinone package installed correctly
and passed all validation tests.However,when i try to compile a tcl script the following error pops up:% ns example1
error when calling class OldSim: example1please note that i have explicitly taken care of path requirements , but still i have this error. Any help would be greatly regarded.
