[ns] Make fails for ns 2.27 with Linux Fedora 3 - could it be mkdep?

Hi ,
 
I'm having such a weird problem. 
I installed ns 2.27 on Linux Fedora core 3 (went around the gcc3.4 
problem using some patch).
 
Now, I'm trying to build ns again (did very simple changes to header files). "Configure" works fine, "make depend" works fine, but "make" fails with a (parsing) error. It says that 
something is wrong in line 1168. If I go into the file Makefile, I will 
find that "mkdep" did not produce the Makefile appropriatly; there was an 
.o file at the end of the line after the slash. So is mkdep 
causing the problem? i.e., is mkdep not working well?
 
I appreciate any hint.
