[ns] Stacking multiple application agents

Hi, 

Is it possible to stack application agents on top of
each other? e.g. have a traffic generator application
feed an application layer routing algorithm?

I have searched the mailing list archive, and the ns-2
documentation states that "the attach-agent method,
which is also used by attach-app, is implemented in
C++. It sets the agent_ pointer in class Application
to point to the transport agent".

Ideally, it would be nice of the agent_ pointer could
be set to point to an underlying application agent and
not directly to a transport agent.

Is there a supported way of doing this in ns-2 or is a
hack required? Would there be contributed code that
has attempted this before?
