[ns] Optical link

Dear NS users,

I am studying the link structure in NS to simulate an optical link.

As I search from NS website, there is one solution. That is to by-pass
the queue in the link. To this point, I have a question: What is the
purpose of the queue in a link?

The second question is that: Is there another way to simulate the
optical link in NS?
