[ns] number of retransmissions of packets in IEEE802.11b MAC scheme!

Hi all,
 
Can anyone please tell me how many times does the MAC layer scheme of IEEE 802.11b try to re-transmit the packets when they are lost or MAC ACK is not received? IS there any way to set this re-transmissions to '0' in ns-2 simulations? I mean i just want the MAC layer to send each packet only once irrespective of it is reached at the destination or not. Please let me know how to set this in simulation. Thanks in advance.
