[ns] older versions of ns - installation

I wonder if it is possible to install older versions of ns(below 2.1b8) on 
latest linux versions(with latest gcc). I've tried to install all the old 
versions on my suse,but all of them failed. Is it my fault,or the old ns 
versions cant be installed on latest linux versions?
