[ns] Can't read "ns_o3"

Dear all,
 
I am still very new to this. Have successfully installed ns2.27 (or so it said).... Did the validation - all ok. However when I tried to run the example1.tcl, it gives me the following error :
 
can't read "ns_o3" : no such variable
while executing
"set ns[new Simulator]"
 (file "example1.tcl" line 1)
 
 
Any ideas? BTW I am using Red Hat Linux Fedora Core. Could this be the problem?
