[ns] How to access 802.11mac variables in a simulation

Hi,
   I'm trying to measure the throughput of a 802.11 wireless network.I 
created inserted a variable bytes_ (just like bytes_
variable in Agent/LossMonitor) and I'm measuring and adding each packet 
length to bytes_ before the packet is passed on to the channel. My question 
is how can I access this variable for each individual MAC entity in the 
simulation (just like accessing variable in bytes_ in LossMonitor, 
demonstrated in Marc Gries' xgraph tutorial).This may sound dumb 
question,but I'm working
on this for two days.Please let me know if you have any pointers
on the above.
