[ns] ontime and offtime in exponential traffic

hi 

i  wanted to know when we supply the ontime and idle time parameters to
the an exponential traffic agent then are then are the sources always on
for that particular amount of time or the sources are on for a time which
follows an exponential distribution with mean equal to the suppield ontime
and same for the off time .... ?
