IP ALERT

Ns works at level 3 guaranteeing routing. Where do I have to look in ns
code if
I want to inspect a packet at a transit node and modify it before
forwarding towards  the right
destination just like would happen with the IP ROUTER ALERT ?  Is such a
thing  possible ?

Thank you very much for any hint , I'm desperate !!!
