For developing C++ code, a debugger such as gdb or ddd, and the suite of
valgrind tools, are typically useful. System profilers such as oprofile
can also be used in some cases.
Depending on the project, familiarity with Python may be needed, but for
most of the GSOC projects, I would expect that it wouldn't be required.
