Hello everybody,
I'm Andrea Sacco, a student of the University of Florence (Italy). I would
like to apply to GSoC with the UAN framework project. Since I'm working with
NS-3/UAN module for my master thesis, I've a "little" experience with both,
NS-3 and C++ programming.

I've seen the proposed idea into the wiki page and, I think to implement the
AUV modeling, power management layer features and maybe to add some new MAC
protocols. I think these are the major priorities with UAN module.
Regarding each feature my idea is:
- AUV modeling, implement a model of the real world movement/navigation of
AUV, like electric motor propelled and "sea gliders" (the two major
categories of AUVs)
- power management, since power consumption is a big issue in wireless
networks, and even more in underwater wireless networks, the idea is to
implement a power management/tracker layer that will helps users in being
aware of the "almost-real" power consumption of a simulated underwater
application or the power performance of a new MAC layer. Since power
consumption is transducer-specific, I think every transducer must have a
"power consumption profile".
- MAC protocols, now there are only three MAC protocols implemented into the
UAN module, I think for a researcher, these are too few to make any sort of
performance comparison. The idea is to implement some supplementary MAC
protocols, following recent research papers.

I would be glad of hearing some comments from the community about my ideas.

Best Regards,
Andrea Sacco
