Well, does anybody have proposals about ns-3.7 release focus and goals apart
of extensive merging contributed models & bugfixing week? I have two.
First, ns-3.6 wifi model is sick. 14 of 76 open bugs are wifi specific, some of
them are really serious. There are definitely not enough system tests for such
complex model. Moreover, upcoming wimax merge will bring new bugs for sure.
Also we have alternative and potentially better wifi PHY model still unmerged
to the main tree. Should we announce ns-3.7 motto to be "Bugfree Wireless" and
especially appreciate all wireless fixes & contributions?
Second, ns-3.6 performance is unsatisfactory. I am practically unable to
simulate more then 100 wifi stations in meaningful scenarios, see also
http://www.nsnam.org/workshops/wns3-2009/talks/ns-3-scalability.pdf .
Profiles show extensive potential for optimizations. Also we have unimplemented
gsoc09 proposal for SNS optimization
(http://www.nsnam.org/wiki/index.php/GSOC2009Projects)
Initial multithreaded and MPI NS-3 versions are on the table and potentially
are very useful. So, should we announce ns-3.7 motto to be "Unlimited
Performance" and especially appreciate all performance/capacity optimizations
and contributions?
What do you think?
