I really don't see what this gives you: "./waf check" does this for you
so, unless the new code provides more features than ./waf check, then,
why should we add another way to do the same thing ? 

As a stepping stone for a longer-term project ? I would be fine with
that if we had a clear description of what that longer term project was
and that is not the case for now.
