The repository here has been prepared by Craig for merging into ns-3-dev:
http://code.nsnam.org/craigdo/ns-3-names/
It provides an object naming service, such that devices, nodes, etc.,
can be accessed by a user defined name.
The repository needs a positive ack from all the maintainers before it
can be merged.
As far as I can tell, the changes include:
1. New files: src/core/names.{h,cc} and examples/names.cc
2. Changes to config.cc to allow use of names in the trace and config system
3. Additions to all of the container and helper APIs to allow users
to work with Objects by name (rather than by Ptr).
I have one question for Craig: is the "auto-naming" code in the tree?
I didn't see anything that implements that functionality, and I can't
recall where that discussion last landed.
As a small nit, I would change the name of the example from names.cc
to something else of your liking, so as to prevent having two files
called names.cc in the codebase.
