Dear All,
News:
=====
I just personally verified that ns-3 builds on all of our supported
platforms using the default configuration (i.e., ./waf -d debug configure)
at least. Major improvement ...
Comments:
=========
Currently the big problem seems to be the failing regression tests. We get
regression comparison errors on Linux and OSX, a regression crash on cygwin,
and MinGW refuses to run regression tests in its vanilla flavor (at least in
my environment).
I think we need a HOWTO that describes how to set up a MinGW environment
"correctly" -- so that one can follow the instructions and just have it
work, rather than having to figure it all out by debugging cryptic error
messages :-)
We need to add something to the README that mentions we have a core set of
software bits that will always be built and a number of pieces that are
conditionally built depending on environment. We need to explain what those
conditional pieces are and what they depend on, and what environments we
expect to support the bits "out of the box." We also have some pieces that
are unsupported on certain platforms in any configuration which we need to
document. This is getting fairly complicated.
Bugs:
=====
As of Monday afternoon (PST), September 8, 2008, we have five P1 bugs filed
against
ns-3.2-RC1:
Bug 277 -- star topologies are painful to create
Status: Craig will deal with this ASAP.
Bug 306 -- nsc: -ldl dependency problem when GtkConfigStore disabled
Status: This has been reopened.
Bug 313 -- regression test fails: test wifi-wired-bridging
Status: ???
Bug 322 -- --enable-nsc attempts to use mercurial to download nsc ...
Status: ???
Bug 324 -- Regression tests refuse to run under MinGW
Status: ???
Progress / Closed Bugs:
=======================
We have closed the following bugs relating to ns-3.2-RC1:
Bug 239 -- tcp has no finite size rcv buffer.
Bug 242 -- TCP does not send FIN on Socket->Close()
Bug 297 -- Python Binding Compilation error with Cygwin
Bug 316 -- Build fails on OSX Intel
Bug 317 -- build error
Next Steps:
===========
I will post an ns-3-RC2 this afternoon, Monday, September 8. However, we
need to address the regression problems ASAP.
Barring any disasters, I will post ns-3-RC3 on Friday, September 12. This
should be completely feature-complete and P1-bug-free if
at all possible.
The release of ns-3.2 will be on Monday, September 15. Hopefully this will
be, in essence, a renaming of ns-3-RC3.
Regards,
-- Craig
