Hi All,

Release candidate number five for ns-3.3 is immediately available at the
below location:
http://www.nsnam.org/releases/ns-3.3-RC5.tar.bz2

The last RC all did not go exactly according to plan (we found another P1
bug this morning); and so we have one more release candidate for your
enjoyment before the ns-3.3 stable release now due out this coming Thursday,
December 18th, 2008.

We believe this version of ns-3.3 is ready for release, and these bits
should become ns-3.3, but we want to get some exposure to the
final code before release. We would appreciate it if you all could find
time to look at this candidate with an eye to finding problems before we
call it "golden." Any testing you can do will be valuable as was
demonstrated this morning.

Please see this "getting started" page if you are new to ns-3:
http://www.nsnam.org/getting_started.html

Supported platforms
-------------------
ns-3.3-RC4 has been tested on the following platforms:
  - Linux x86 gcc 4.2, 4.1, and, 3.4.6.
  - Linux x86_64 gcc 4.3.2, 4.2.3, 4.2.1, 4.1.3, 3.4.6
  - MacOS X ppc and x86
  - Cygwin gcc 3.4.4 (debug only)

Not all ns-3 options are available on all platforms; consult the wiki for
more information:

New user-visible features in ns-3.3
-----------------------------------
  a) Emulated Net Device

A new net device has been added as enabling technology for
ns-3 emulation scenarios. See src/devices/emu and
examples/emu-udp-echo.cc for details. A new manual chapter
on emulation is now available as well.

  b) ICMP Support
Support for several ICMP messages has been added to ns-3.
     See src/internet-stack/icmpv4.h for details.

  c) IPv6 Address Support
New classes to support IPv6 addresses has been added to the
system. This is enabling technology for fuller IPv6 support
     scheduled for ns-3.4.

API changes from ns-3.2
-----------------------
API changes for this release are documented in the file CHANGES.html

Known Issues
------------

See the bug tracker (http://www.nsnam.org/bugzilla/) for known problems (P1
bugs against ns-3-dev are considered blockers for the ns-3.3 release and as
of this writing, no P1 bugs are filed).

Please do not hesitate to file new bugs if you uncover problems; and please
test, test, test everything in sight.

Regards,

-- Craig
