[Ns-developers] progress on wireless PHY

hi all,

After the lengthy discussion which took place here 2 weeks ago, I think
that it is now time to go back to what we can agree on:
  - we need to provide multiple models, potentially targeted at
different underlying wireless technologies
  - the MAC layer needs to be notified of every packet received (whether
or not it is received successfully).

This list is, arguably, not very long and what our previous discussion
has shown is that, as expected, different users have different
expectations about which error calculation model exactly is implemented
in the PHY layer. So, to make progress on these issues, I would like to
propose the two following actions:

1) If there is a specific error model you think should be included,
please, add a description of this model in the wiki. To do so, I have
added a section titled "Error Models" at the bottom of the wiki page
(http://www.nsnam.org/wiki/index.php/Ns3WirelessPhy) and I hope that you
will fill it in. For each model, you should add:
  - expected wireless standard it is appropriate for (i.e. 802.11,
wimax, etc.)
  - if you can help implement this model in ns-3
  - description of the model: adding links or references to papers which
describe the model is fine.

2) If you care about the MAC <-> PHY interface, please, comment on the
attached API proposal. Also available from there:
http://www-sop.inria.fr/dream/personnel/Mathieu.Lacage/wireless-phy.h

I would like to set a deadline on each of these to allow us to make real
progress soon:
  - we need a final API proposal for the MAC <-> PHY interface by 15th
december
  - we need to revisit the list of models to implement by december 15th.

If you have further comments or feel like proposing different action
items (in which case, you must be ready to do something about these
action items), now is the time to reply to this email on the
ns-developers ML.

regards,
Mathieu
