Did you take a look at the following paper:
Sniffing out the Correct Physical Layer Capture Model in 802.11b
A. Kochut, A. Vasan, U. Shankar, A. Agrawala
The authors state that according to their empirical studies, the
second packet is received successfully as long as it arrives within
the physical layer preamble of the first frame. They also identified
this bug in the MAC-level implementation of ns-2.
