Hi All,
This is to announce that a new release of ns (version 2.27) is now
available. This release of ns also comes with new releases of nam
(v1.10), otcl(1.8), tclcl(1.15) and ns-allinone(v2.27) pkg. The
ns/nam release has many new features/modules and bug-fixes which are
listed in brief below.

You can download these latest release versions
(by HTTP) from http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/dist/ and
by FTP from ftp://ftp.isi.edu/nsnam/.

The ns-build page at http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns/ns-build.html
should be updated to show the release by midnight today.

Please send all your comments and bug-reports to ns-users at isi.edu

Thanks,
--Padma Haldar

What's new in ns-2.27
-----------------------
* otcl, tclcl, ns and nam has been upgraded to use tcl/tk8.4.5 libraries.

* Wireless radio simulations are now faster thanks to an optimization
contributed by [Val Naomov etal] from ETH. This list-based improvement
has been observed to make large simulations 4-20x faster. See paper
[http://www.lst.inf.ethz.ch/research/publications/MSWiM_2003.html] for details.

* Modified version of setdest (scenario/node-movement generator for wireless
scenarios) that supports steady-state speed distribution (in addition to
previous modes). Contributed by Univ. of Michigan.

* SCTP ported into ns-2. Contributed by Univ. of Delaware

* A hybrid analytic/packet-based worm model for simulating internet worm
attacks now available. It supports two worm scanning behaviors: random and
local-preferred. Contributed by Xuan Chen of USC.

* New module Delayer for introducing delay variation and channel allocation
delay. This is useful for modeling the effects of wireless links. Contributed
by Andrei Gurtov.

* The Infrastructure mode for 802.11 MAC is now integrated into ns. The (access point) AP part of the code was contributed by Mike Morton. Aditi kapoor added the concept of a basic service set (BSS) which is a set of stations that form adhoc network or ar
e controlled by a central entity called the AP. Each BSS is on a dirrent channel. Nodes are allowed to change their BSS. Also pkts are exchanged between BSS through wire links. However the scan/join functionality of BSS are not supported.

* The directed diffusion module in ns continued to be updated. The current version in ns is 3.2.0. New testcases added for 2 phase-pull, push, 1 phase-pull and gear (with push and 2pp) scenarios. Added API that allows diffusion-enabled nodes to add differ
ent filters (push, 1PP, 2PP, log etc).

* Script color-event.pl added under ~ns/bin that takes event/color pairs and colors pkts which then get highlighted in nam. This uses event-tracing mechanism in ns and can be helpful in vizualising certain events in nam.

* Improved portability for C++ namespaces (required for gcc-3.2 where the standard C++ libraries like iostream are in namespace stl only).
