Hi All,
I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and also to give an update: that
in mid-December I started a term at DARPA with a charter to develop the
cognitive networking concept. There is good reason to be enthusiastic about
the growing community and technical base that is evolving around this topic;
the accumulating technical insights are surely beginning to point a way to
the goal of networks that work so smoothly and automatically as to seem
invisible. Or should I say, networks that are self-managing
(self-configuring and diagnosing) in the face of dynamic environments and
missions. I am very optimistic about the odds that more work in this area
will yield significant results.
Also, I know I'm not alone in appreciating the effort that Bob and Ted at
ISI put into hosting and managing resources like the KP web site and this
list. I would like to add a note of thanks for that contribution to the
emerging community.
It is at DARPATech that I hope to be able to say something about my official
efforts and where they are going. Meanwhile I would like to remain in touch
and to keep discussing the Ideas that should be informing those efforts.
