The home page URL for the conference is at the bottom of this email. As we did last year, we are encouraging Digital Government PIs to bring along copies of recent books that they may have published, for display and distribution to interested colleagues at the conference. We also encourage you to submit any video you have produced that offers an overview of your DG-funded research project. We're contemplating holding a screening if there is enough interest. Please email me directly and let me know whether you plan to bring books or videos to the conference, and I'll share the information with the rest of the conference organizing committee. You can view it here: http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2004/nsf04537/nsf04537.htm. Program Synopsis: The Human and Social Dynamics (HSD) priority area aims to foster breakthroughs in knowledge about human action and development as well as organizational, cultural, and societal adaptation and change. Such a transformation in basic understanding would parallel the explosion of knowledge about the physical and biological worlds that characterized the twentieth century. HSD aims to increase our collective ability to anticipate the complex consequences of change; to better understand the dynamics of human and social behavior at all levels, including that of the human mind; to better understand the cognitive and social structures that create and define change; and to help people and organizations better manage profound or rapid change. Accomplishing these goals requires a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach across the sciences, engineering, and education, including the development of infrastructure that can support such efforts. The FY 2004 competition will include three topical emphasis areas (Agents of Change; Dynamics of Human Behavior; and Decision Making and Risk) and three resource-related emphasis areas (Spatial Social Science; Modeling Human and Social Dynamics; and Instrumentation and Data Resource Development). Support will be provided for research-focused, education-focused, infrastructure-focused, and exploratory projects. _________________________________ ::::..... mack reed ::::..... All submissions to the conference must be made through an automated system, available at: http://www.dgrc.org/dgo2004/papers/ The system will be accessible January 16, 2004 to February 6, 2004 at this address. Late submissions or revisions will not be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS. Project Highlight Submission: This year a new track called NSF Project Highlights has been introduced in the Digital Government Conference to showcase the NSF Digital Government Projects.    Step 1: Each project should submit an MS PowerPoint file describing its most interesting, exciting, and challenging aspects. You must address the following 10 topics (e.g., have 10 slides). You may use extra slides (e.g., to describe multiple success stories). This format is designed to be simple and easy for you to fill in, simple and easy for us, your NSF program directors, to use when we describe your project, and useful for you as you respond to the annual request from NSF for “nuggets” and other information (to be responsive to the Government Performance and Results Act GPRA). (Note that the NSF request for GPRA information will be sent to you very soon.) We encourage you to describe the most interesting aspects of your project in each category below – the kind of information that you’d like to present at the conference.  Please prepare 10 slides with the following information: 1. Project title 2. Types of collaboration with government partner (e.g., through cost-sharing, direct support, advice and feedback) and with other closely related grants 3. Scientific research objective 4. Accomplishments 5. Management structure for the project, including government partners 6. Collaboration examples and success stories 7. Broad impact 8. Challenges/barriers 9. Research value when working in DG domain 10. Recommendations for improving DG program Step 2:Each project will receive constructive feedback from the program committee, including feedback from the NSF program officers, on its Project Highlights submission. The program committee will also inform you of the venue for your project highlight at the dg.o 2004 Conference. We expect the feedback to be ready for you on March 12, 2004. You will be able to see your feedback by logging into the online submission site at: http://www.dgrc.org/dgo2004/papers/ Step 3: Each project should write a 2-page project description that will appear in the printed proceedings for the dg.o 2004 Conference. You are encouraged to describe the most interesting aspects of your project in your write up. You can also include references to your project website(s) or other materials. Step 4: Each project should present their Project Highlight at the conference, in the venue chosen by the program committee. Demo, Poster and Birds of a Feather Submissions: You are encouraged to submit 2-page demo proposals, poster proposals, and birds-of-a-feather session proposals for consideration at the conference. One of the highlights of dg.o conferences is the demonstration/poster sessions, held in special sessions to the accompaniment of good food. We encourage demos that accompany papers or project highlights (in which case, please submit both a system demo description and a paper or project highlight). Each demo station will have a table, an easel, and Internet access. Research Paper Submission: You are encouraged to submit research papers that make a substantial contribution in the field of digital government research. The research papers can be up to 10 pages in length and will be reviewed by a minimum of three reviewers from the program committee. We expect to accept about a dozen research papers. Note: this is quite different from prior years where nearly all papers, both short and long, were accepted. Also note that the “short paper” category has been eliminated for this year. Important Dates: Due February 6, 2004:     MS PowerPoint file (10 slides, as described above)                                               Demo proposals in .pdf format (2 page limit)                                               Poster proposals in .pdf format (2 page limit)                                               Research papers in .pdf format (10 page limit)                                               Birds-of-a-feather proposals in .pdf format (2 page limit) Due April 2, 2004:             Camera-ready copies of all accepted papers in .pdf format 2 page project description document for Project Highlight in .pdf format – to appear in the dg.o 2004 Proceedings  PIs reception:                      May 23, 2004 at the conference hotel in Seattle, WA (http://www.dgrc.org/dgo2004/venue) dg.o 2004 Conference:  May 23-26, 2004 in Seattle, WA For more information on the conference, please consult the website at: http://www.dgrc.org/dgo2004 We'd love to hear from all projects at the dg.o Conference. Please plan to attend. The entire conference schedule can be found here: http://dgrc.org/dgo2004/program/ Also - Many of your personal profiles contain outdated information or broken links to your photos. With the conference entering its fifth year, and enjoying a strong upsurge in interest from the governments of both the U.S. and Europe, we'd like to be looking our best come May. Your page is your public face at dg.o, and can be used to invite collaboration, seek information and point to some of your most recent work. The request - If you haven't updated your personal page at DigitalGovernment.org, now would be a good time to pay it a visit. By now, you should have submitted your Project Highlight, as a 10-page Powerpoint presentation, online at http://www.ctg.albany.edu/conference/dgo/ . For inclusion in the Proceedings, we now ask that you submit a 2-page, camera-ready text abstract of your Project Highlight. Please prepare your camera-ready copy for submission online by March 24 in accordance with the dg.o2005 Call for Papers. Pay close attention to the formatting requirements - in particular, your paper should be submitted using the ACM's "proceedings" template, as outlined here: http://dgrc.org/dgo2005/papers/#format If you already submitted your PH abstract in a different ACM format, you must reformat the text into that template and resubmit it. You will be able to upload the current version directly over the older version. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Yours, m ____________________________________ ::::.....
