[APRU-DLP] Status of the DLPP Project

All,

I am back from hiatus, but on email sporadically due to a family illness.

My evaluation of the DLPP project is as follows:

- Judy Lemus' crab Global Heartbeat study is a very good one, but Judy
and I have determined that there is no current plan to provide
shipping/insurance and assurance/responsibility/replacement of the
units. As we discussed previously, I think we should reevaluate this
project for next year (when we also may have funding for the units and
for the concerns listed above).

- Megan Harber's Comparative Research Study of five fishes in each of
the partners' regions is a good one. It will enable everyone to work on
their school's timeline, and to work asynchronously but communicate via
a number of media. We can provide a web site that will support this
project.

- If Megan's study cannot be adopted by all or most of the partners, I
encourage bilateral collaborations. We have spent a good time learning
about the bioscience summer school programs at our universities, and
this knowledge may allow each program to work with one other
school/program. In addition, I would be happy to provide support for
bilateral collaborations.

Please indicate ASAP if you would like to work with as many partners as
possible on Megan's study. Again, the partner schools are Far Eastern
National University (Alexei, Russia), University of California at San
Diego (Megan Harber, USA), University of Southern California (Judy
Lemus, USA), and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Adolfo
Gracia/Manuel Alcocer, Mexico).

YES____ I plan to participate in Megan's study.
NO_____ I do not plan to participate in Megan's study.

If NO, I (__________________________) plan to work on a bilateral
collaboration with ____________________________.

Thank you for your prompt response and welcome to Summer.

Best regards,
Zita
